How is the protection level of the motor divided?

How is the protection level of the motor divided? What is the meaning of rank? How to choose a model? Everyone must know a little bit, but they are not systematic enough. Today, I will sort out this knowledge for you for reference only.

IP protection class

Image
IP (INTERNATIONAL PROTECTION) protection level is a special industrial protection level, which classifies electrical appliances according to their dust-proof and moisture-proof characteristics. The foreign objects referred to here include tools, and human fingers should not touch the live parts of the electrical appliance to avoid electric shock. The IP protection level is composed of two numbers. The first number indicates the level of the electrical appliance against dust and foreign objects intrusion. The second number indicates the degree of airtightness of the electrical appliance against moisture and water intrusion. The larger the number, the higher the protection level. high.

Classification and definition of motor protection class (first digit)

0: No protection,   no special protection

1: Protection against solids larger than 50mm
It can prevent solid foreign objects with a diameter greater than 50mm from entering the shell. It can prevent a large area of the body (such as the hand) from accidentally or accidentally touching live or moving parts of the shell, but cannot prevent conscious access to these parts.

2: Protection against solids larger than 12mm
It can prevent solid foreign objects with a diameter greater than 12mm from entering the shell. Prevents fingers from touching live or moving parts of the housing

3: Protection against solids larger than 2.5mm
It can prevent solid foreign objects with a diameter greater than 2.5mm from entering the shell. It can prevent tools, metal wires, etc. with a thickness or diameter greater than 2.5mm from touching live or moving parts in the shell

4: Protection against solids larger than 1mm
It can prevent solid foreign objects with a diameter greater than 1mm from entering the shell. Can prevent wires or strips with a diameter or thickness greater than 1mm from touching live or running parts in the shell

5: Dustproof
It can prevent dust from entering to the extent that affects the normal operation of the product, and completely prevent access to live or moving parts in the shell.

6: Dusty
It can completely prevent dust from entering the casing and completely prevent touching the live or moving parts of the casing
① For a motor cooled by a coaxial external fan, the protection of the fan should be able to prevent its blades or spokes from being touched by hand. At the air outlet, when the hand is inserted, the guard plate with a diameter of 50mm cannot pass.
② Excluding the scupper hole, the scupper hole should not be lower than the requirements of Class 2.

Classification and definition of motor protection class (second digit)
0: No protection, no special protection

1: Anti-drip, vertical dripping water should not directly enter the inside of the motor

2: 15o drip-proof, dripping water within an angle of 15o from the plumb line should not directly enter the inside of the motor

3: Anti-splashing water, the water splashing within the range of 60O angle with the plumb line should not directly enter the inside of the motor

4: Splash-proof, splashing water in any direction should have no harmful effect on the motor

5: Anti-spray water, water spray in any direction should have no harmful effect on the motor

6: Anti-sea waves, or imposed strong sea waves or strong water sprays should have no harmful effect on the motor

7: Water immersion, the motor is immersed in water under the specified pressure and time, and its water intake should have no harmful effect

8: Submersible, the motor is immersed in water for a long time under the specified pressure, and its water intake should have no harmful effect

The most commonly used protection grades of motors are IP11, IP21, IP22, IP23, IP44, IP54, IP55, etc.
In actual use, the motor used indoors generally adopts the protection level of IP23, and in a slightly harsh environment, choose IP44 or IP54. The minimum protection level of motors used outdoors is generally IP54, and must be treated outdoors. In special environments (such as corrosive environments), the protection level of the motor must also be improved, and the housing of the motor must be specially treated.
