Japan’s 100-year-old Mitsubishi Electric admits data fraud for 40 years

Lead: According to CCTV reports, the recent century-old Japanese company Mitsubishi Electric admitted that the transformers it produced had the problem of fraudulent inspection data. On the 6th of this month, the two quality management certification certificates of the factory involved in the company were suspended by international certification agencies.

In the central business district near Tokyo Station, the building behind the reporter is the headquarters of Mitsubishi Electric Corporation. Recently, the company admitted that the transformer products produced by a factory in Hyogo Prefecture had data falsification in the inspection conducted before leaving the factory.

Affected by this, the international certification body suspended the ISO9001 international quality management system certification and the international railway industry standard certification of the factory involved on the 6th. It is worth noting that 6 Mitsubishi Electric factories have successively cancelled or suspended relevant international certifications due to problems such as quality inspection fraud.

A third-party investigation commissioned by Mitsubishi Electric found that the company’s transformer data fraud dates back to at least 1982, spanning 40 years. The nearly 3,400 transformers involved were sold to Japan and abroad, including Japan’s railway companies and operating nuclear power plants.

According to Japanese media investigations, at least nine Japanese nuclear power plants are involved. On the 7th, the reporter also tried to contact Mitsubishi Electric to find out whether the products in question entered the Chinese market, but due to the weekend, they did not get a reply from the other party.

In fact, this is not the first time a counterfeiting scandal has occurred at Mitsubishi Electric. In June last year, the company was exposed to the issue of fraud in the quality inspection of train air conditioners, and admitted that this behavior was an organized fraud. It has formed a tacit understanding among its internal employees since 30 years ago. This scandal also caused the general manager of Mitsubishi Electric to take the blame. Resign.

In recent years, many well-known Japanese companies, including Hino Motors and Toray, have been exposed to fraud scandals one after another, casting a shadow over the golden signboard of “made in Japan” that claims to be quality assurance.
