Audi unveils upgraded rally car RS Q e-tron E2

On September 2, Audi officially released the upgraded version of the rally car RS Q e-tron E2. The new car has optimized body weight and aerodynamic design, and uses a more simplified operation mode and an efficient energy management system. The new car is about to go into action. Morocco Rally 2022 and Dakar Rally 2023.

If you’re familiar with rallying and Audi history, you’ll be thrilled with the revival of the “E2″ name, which was used in the final version of the Audi Sport quattro that dominated WRC Group B at the end of the 20th century. One name – Audi Sport Quattro S1 E2, with its excellent 2.1T inline five-cylinder engine, quattro four-wheel drive system and dual-clutch gearbox, Audi has been fighting until the WRC officially decided to cancel the Group B race.

Audi named the upgraded version of RS Q e-tron as RS Q e-tron E2 this time, which also reflects Audi’s heritage in rallying. Axel Loffler, chief designer of the Audi RS Q e-tron (parameters | inquiry), said: “The Audi RS Q e-tron E2 does not use the previous model’s integral body parts.” In order to meet the internal dimensions, the roof was narrowed in the past. The cockpit is now significantly wider, and the front and rear hatches have also been redesigned. At the same time, a new aerodynamic concept is applied to the body structure under the front hood of the new model.

The electric drive system of the Audi RS Q e-tron E2 consists of a high-efficiency energy converter consisting of an internal combustion engine and an electric motor, a high-voltage battery, and two electric motors mounted on the front and rear axles. The optimized energy control also improves the energy consumption of auxiliary systems. Energy consumption from servo pumps, air conditioning cooling pumps and fans, etc., can be effectively balanced, which has an important impact on improving energy efficiency.

In addition, Audi has simplified its operating strategy, and Audi driver and navigator duo Mattias Ekstrom and Emil Bergkvist, Stéphane Peterhansel and Edouard Boulanger, Carlos Sainz and Lucas Cruz will receive a new cockpit. The display remains in the driver’s field of vision, as in the past on the center console, and the center switch panel with 24 display areas has also been retained. But engineers have reorganized the display and control system to optimize the operating experience.

According to official reports, the Audi RS Q e-tron E2 prototype racing car will make its debut in the Moroccan Rally held in Agadir, a city in southwestern Morocco, from October 1st to 6th.
