CATL will mass-produce sodium-ion batteries next year

Ningde Times released its third quarter financial report. The content of the financial report shows that in the third quarter of this year, the operating income of CATL was 97.369 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 232.47%, and the net profit attributable to shareholders of listed companies was 9.423 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 188.42%. In the first three quarters of this year, CATL achieved revenue of 210.340 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 186.72%; net profit of 17.592 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 126.95%; among which, the net profit of the first three quarters has exceeded the net profit of 2021, and the net profit of CATL in 2021 15.9 billion yuan.

Jiang Li, secretary of the board of directors and deputy general manager of CATL, said in the investor conference call that although the price linkage mechanism has been negotiated with most power battery customers, the gross profit margin is also affected by factors such as raw material prices and capacity utilization; looking forward to the fourth quarter , the current industry development trend is good, if there are no adverse changes in raw material prices, capacity utilization and other factors, it is expected that the gross profit margin in the fourth quarter will further improve from the third quarter.

In terms of sodium-ion batteries, the industrialization of the company’s sodium-ion batteries is progressing smoothly, and the layout of the supply chain will take some time. It has negotiated with some passenger car customers and will be officially mass-produced next year.

In the third quarter of this year, the layout of energy storage in CATL accelerated. In September, CATL signed a strategic cooperation with Sungrow, and the two parties further deepened their cooperation in new energy fields such as energy storage. It will supply 10GWh of energy storage products within time; on October 18, CATL announced that it will exclusively supply batteries for the Gemini photovoltaic plus energy storage project in the United States.

SNE data shows that from January to August, the cumulative installed capacity of CATL reached 102.2GWh, exceeding 96.7GWh in 2021, with a global market share of 35.5%. Among them, in August, the global market share of CATL was 39.3%, an increase of 6.7 percentage points from the beginning of the year and a record high in a single month.
