Changsha BYD’s 8-inch automotive chip production line is expected to be put into operation in early October

Recently, the 8-inch automotive chip production line of Changsha BYD Semiconductor Co., Ltd. successfully completed the installation and started production debugging. It is expected to be officially put into production in early October, and it can produce 500,000 automotive-grade chips annually.

Zhang Caiyu, head of BYD Semiconductor, said that key equipment such as lithography machines, etching machines, and ion implanters for this production line are imported products, with a total of 208 sets and 1,133 boxes, with a value of about 890 million yuan. This batch of equipment is expensive, has a wide variety, is difficult to transport, and requires high storage, and the unpacking inspection can only be carried out in a dust-free environment.

It is understood that the Changsha BYD Semiconductor 8-inch wafer production line project started in April 2020. It is located in Changsha Economic and Technological Development Zone, Changsha County, covering an area of 102 acres. The planned total investment is 1 billion yuan. The main construction content is to transform semiconductor wafers. Production workshops, auxiliary workshops and other supporting facilities, etc., with a total construction area of about 50,000 square meters. After completion and production, it is expected that the annual operating income will reach 800 million yuan, and the profit will be about 40 million yuan.

It is understood that the project mainly revolves around the R&D and industrial application of new energy vehicle electronic core technologies. The advanced 8-inch new energy vehicle electronic chip production line solves the “stuck neck” problem of new energy vehicle electronic core power devices and realizes the localization of core components .

Zhou Xiaozhou, general manager of BYD Group in Hunan and secretary of the Party Committee of Changsha Company, introduced at the start of the project, “This project will build a new energy vehicle power module wafer production line with leading domestic technology and technology, which can meet the annual capacity of 500,000 new energy vehicles. Car capacity needs.”
