Hyundai Mobis to build electric vehicle powertrain plant in the U.S.

Hyundai Mobis, one of the world’s largest auto parts suppliers, plans to build an electric vehicle powertrain plant in (Bryan County, Georgia, USA) to support Hyundai Motor Group’s electrification efforts.

Hyundai Mobis plans to start construction of the new facility covering an area of ​​1.2 million square feet (approximately 111,000 square meters) as early as January 2023, and the new factory will be completed and put into operation by 2024.

The new plant will be responsible for the production of electric vehicle power systems (annual output will exceed 900,000 units) and integrated charging control units (annual output will be 450,000 units), which will be used in Hyundai Motor Group’s electric vehicle factories in the United States, including :

  • The recently announced Hyundai Motor Group Americas subsidiary Metaplant Plant (HMGMA), also located in Blaine County, Georgia
  • Hyundai Motor Alabama Manufacturing (HMMA) in Montgomery, Alabama
  • Kia Georgia Plant

Hyundai Mobis expects to invest USD 926 million in the new plant and create 1,500 new jobs. The company currently operates a factory in Georgia, located in West Point (West Point), which employs nearly 1,200 people and supplies complete cockpit modules, chassis modules and bumper components to automakers.
