Polestar Global Design Competition 2022 officially launched

[July 7, 2022, Gothenburg, Sweden] Polestar, a global high-performance electric vehicle brand, is headed by renowned automotive designer Thomas Ingenlath. In 2022, Polestar will launch the third global design competition with the theme of “high performance” to imagine the possibility of future travel.

The Polestar Global Design Competition is an annual event. The first edition will be held in 2020. It aims to attract talented and aspiring professional designers and design students to participate and depict Polestar’s future vision with extraordinary creativity. Entries are not limited to cars, but must conform to Polestar’s design philosophy.

One of the highlights of the Polestar Global Design Competition is that the competition has one-on-one coaching and support from the Polestar professional design team, digital modeling for the finalists by the modeling team, and physical models for the winning entries.

This year, Polestar will produce a full-scale model of the winning design on a 1:1 scale and display it at the Polestar booth at the Shanghai Auto Show in April 2023.

Following the two themes of “Pure” and “Pioneer”, the rule of the 2022 Polestar Global Design Competition is to design Polestar products that are different from the traditional high-consumption products popular in the 20th century. Entries must visually represent “high performance” in a new form, and interpret the high-tech means applied to achieve the performance pursuit in a sustainable way.

Since its inception, the Polestar Global Design Competition has attracted professional designers and design students from all over the world to actively participate with various vehicle design works and cutting-edge design concepts. Breakthrough designs showcased at past competitions include cars that use externally visible on-board air filters to tackle pollution, electric helium spaceships, electric running shoes made from springboard blades, and luxury that embodies Polestar’s minimalist design tonality Electric yacht, etc.

KOJA, a miniature treehouse designed by Finnish designer Kristian Talvitie, won an honorable mention in the 2021 Polestar Global Design Competition, has been built into a physical building and will be held in Finland this summer at the “Fiska” Sicun Art and Design Biennale”. This is also the first time that the Polestar Global Design Competition has realized full-scale production of design works.
